Suicide Prevention & amp; Life Promotion study in Salmon Arm and region
Jan 28, 2020
In response to rising suicide rates, the British Columbia Ministry of Health launched a 3-year suicide prevention gatekeeper training initiative that was implemented across the province between 2015- 2018.
This study explores local action and understanding of suicide prevention and life promotion efforts, within the Shuswap-Revelstoke region.
What were the intended and unintended effects of the provincial training initiative? How is your community life promoting? Life inhibiting?
In collaboration with CMHA-Shuswap-Revelstoke, Patti Ranahan returns to the BC Interior where her child and youth care career began 25 years ago, to build upon findings from a previous study conducted with Dr. Jennifer White (University of Victoria) that followed the implementation of the gatekeeper training initiative.
In conducting the study entitled “Sustaining suicide prevention efforts: A community case study,” Patti has been spending time in the community speaking with community members from all walks of life and observing different places throughout the Salmon Arm/Shuswap/Revelstoke area.
