In celebration of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s 100 year anniversary, here in Salmon Arm and area, we want to continue to raise awareness and funds for mental health through Ride Don’t Hide. This will be our 5th annual ride and we continue to build community awareness and momentum for mental health.
Funds raised from the 2018 ride will continue to promote the mental health of everyone in our community. This means funding programs like Living Life to the Full and our new Wellness Centre for youth based out of Salmon Arm Secondary School. We want our youth to have access to health services including mental health so this generation of young people and generations to come can thrive in our community.
Mental health means feeling good about who you are, having balance in your life and in your thinking, and responding constructively to life’s highs and lows. Mental health can affect many areas of our lives: work, school, home life, relationships with others, sleep, appetite, energy levels, ability to think clearly, make decisions, physical health, life satisfaction and more…… Everyone should practice good mental health. It will help protect you from mental illness, and it can help you get the most of out of life.
The Challenge: Often people have difficulty recognizing how issues of mental health affect us and our families. We need to embrace these issues and be a part of the solution.
The Reality: Each and every person and family in this country, in this community, has been or will be affected by mental health issues. We all have mental health! We want everyone in our community to embrace the knowledge that we all have mental health and by doing so we are creating healthier communities.
The Ask: We are looking for local business and community members to be part of something Bigger! Become mental health champions by forming a Ride Don’t Hide cycling team. We need the community’s help to support grass roots initiatives like our Wellness Centre and further break down the stigma surrounding mental health.
By making mental health for all a priority, together, we can make all the difference! Register your Team and start fundraising today! www.ridedonthide.com
Re-cap from 2017
The 2017 Ride Don’t Hide event raised $1.6M for vital mental health programs and initiatives. This could not have happened without the support of thousands of Canadians who participated from coast to coast. Through their efforts, in their communities and workplaces, they helped raise awareness about mental health and the need to eliminate the stigma of mental illness.
